NASCAR Cup Series race at Chicagoland last Sunday witnessed some controversial moment, including FRM’s Zane Smith wrecking Spire’s Carson Hocevar. The incident and dramatic comments from the Ford driver post-race raised a lot of eye-braws. In order to avoid any potential retaliation in the future, the sanctioning body had a meeting with duo in the hauler ahead of the Atlanta race.
Unfortunately, the meets seem to have failed to yield aa positive results, as Smith doubled down on his criticism of the No:77 Chevy driver and admitted to the media that he doesn’t like Hocevar as a human. He admitted that they have a mutual dislike and also extended his criticism of the young drivers’ fans who has recently targeted him on social media.
I just don’t like him as a human. The meeting doesn’t change how much I dislike him and how much he dislikes me… It was kind of funny. I mean, some of the comments and memes have been funny, for sure. But yeah, I mean, they’re all proving me right.
Zane Smith said after Houler meeting at Atlanta.
Further talking about his relationship with Carson Hocevar, the Front Row Motorsports driver Zane Smith admitted that he has issue with just one racer in the whole Cup garage. He would continue racing the Chevy driver with the same aggression he has shown over the last few seasons.
Yeah, I have no problem with anyone else, and I’m not gonna go create the trouble, but I just am a big believer in how I race you and how you race me… So, until he proves that to me, we’ll go from there.
Zane Smith added as reported via motorsport.com.
The Chevy driver had the perfect response the pointed comments from Smith. He joked to the media about the duo supposedly needing couples counselling. He also highlighted how he didn’t want the FRM driver to get punished for the incident that was within the allowed aggression limit in NASCAR.
We’ll have to go to couples counseling, I’m sure. You know, a lot of times with your partner and everything, you don’t see it, so unfortunate… I was hoping they didn’t penalize him. That’d be really soft of the sport, personally.
Carson Hocevar responded.
Carson Hocevar defended his fans after Zane Smith’s criticism
In the same conversation later, Hocevar defended his passionate fans base that also came under fire. Though he doesn’t condone the goofy side of some of his fans, he understands most of them are really passionate motorsports supporters.

No, I mean, I think it’s a good thing that fans are passionate about the field. I haven’t seen any of it. If they’re insulting anything other than just anything on a racetrack, I don’t obviously condone that. We all look and sound and are different. I mean, I look goofy, so that’s not cool, but I don’t know.
Carson Hocevar said.
He reminded the garage that they need to be stop being too sensitive of the fans and the comments online, they need to realize at the end of the day the supporters are the soul of the sport. The comments from the racer shows the wild side of the sport and it would be interesting how the beef is going to playout in the coming weeks.
