The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season so far hasn’t seen a champion level performance from Hendrick Motorsports’ defending title winner Kyle Larson. It’s been more than year since the veteran has won a race, and what’s more disappointing is the fact he is failing despite having car consistent enough to earn him seven top-5s from 19 starts.

2014 champion Kevin Harvick in the latest episode of his podcast, shared his thoughts on the No:5 Chevy driver’s performance in 2026. He asserted that the two times title winner hasn’t had any dominant race season and highlighted how he missed out on many wins owing to incidents that was not in his control.

We still haven’t seen a Kyle Larson-dominated race this year. I mean, we’ve seen those moments where he’s been leading laps when all the other guys are having problems on the day when he’s running decent.

Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.

Furthermore, Kevin Harvick highlighted how HMS as a whole have had a roller coaster year, with them having bad days every other week. But that doesn’t justify the pretty wild winless streak of the champion driver Kyle Larson. The ex-SHR driver like many thought it wouldn’t have taken this much time for the veteran to find pace to win a race.

But we’ve not seen all four Hendrick cars show up and be good. It just seems like every week it’s one or the other that is off. And it’s not like they were way off, but it just hasn’t all lined up for Larson. And the fact that the streak without a win is as long as it is, is pretty wild. Talking about our [reigning Cup] champion, I thought by this point they would have it figured out.

Later in the same conversation, the veteran talked about the pressure that is on the shoulders of the HMS drivers and well as the owners, as they hate having just two wins in the season. There is hope for the team though, as Chase Elliott with two wins have shown they have what it takes to win, and the recent performance have been strong as well.

Well, the other thing you got to remember too is Rick does not like to lose. Rick is a winner, and he is, I guarantee you, pushing the buttons, but his wife [hates] to lose worse than he does. There is a lot of pressure on those people in that race shop to get this thing fixed and be able to put themselves in victory lane… There were definitely signs of things that from the weekend.

Kevin Harvick asserted.

Kyle Larson was mad at himself over Chicagoland performance

The veteran racer was really disappointed after his last week’s performance at Chicagoland, that saw the end of a four-race top-5 streak which should have yielded a win. He was blunt post-race admitting how his disappointing finish was result of his own mistakes and he is mad at himself over it.

I don’t know. I mean, I wish we weren’t so reliant on the bottom of the car because, yeah I mean obviously I spun so it’s self induced but I’ve had other time in the past couple of years where you run the debris over and you get a flat that’s out of your control and then you drag your diffuser off and that’s the end of your day… So it kind of s***s, but I mean I’m just mad at myself tonight.

The comments from the veteran racer are on point and shows how the season so far has been a mixed bag for him. He still has 17 races left in the season to get back to winning ways, but if he can’t win two or three races soon, the No:5 team can give up on the dream if defending the championship.
