Ross Chastain had his breakout cup season in 2022 with Trackhouse Racing. The No:1 Camaro ZL1 driver finished second in the championship and was the only Championship 4 driver with a shot at defeating Joey Logano at Phoenix.
But his impressive consistency through the season wasn’t the primary factor in the skyrocketed fame of the “watermelon man,” His video game inspired me to move from the Martinsville Round of 8 cut-off race, marking his NASCAR legacy.
Speaking at the 2022 NASCAR awards, Ross Chastain claimed that his Martinsville move seems too unrealistic to be made a movie about. He pointed out that the video from Martinsville seemed like animated CG, and he believes it doesn’t look natural when he watches it.
“I don’t think they would have made this movie would have been too unrealistic. No, no. I mean, the video at Martinsville looks like a really bad animated CG-whatever, like a fake thing that they’ve dubbed in. Like it doesn’t look real when I watch it,” Ross Chastain said.
Ross Chastain explains why he feels his move is not Hollywood worthy
Ross Chastain pointed out that the video clipping of his moves isn’t good enough. He added that the cars seem to glitch, and non-one from Hollywood would have bought them if it was pitched in January.
“I feel like whoever made that should have made it look more real. The car looks like it’s glitching by. Yeah, I think it’s beyond a movie. I don’t think that it would even seem real if you were to pitch that in January. I don’t think people would have… I don’t think that Hollywood would have bought it,” Ross Chastain said.
Ross Chastain talked about his impressive season and shared his expectations for the 2023 season. He hopes to have a better start in the 75th anniversary cup season than he did this year. He will be positioned ideally next year if everything goes right at the Trackhouse garage.
“We have smart people, so do I think my car’s gonna handle better at the start of 2023 than it did at the end of 22? I hope so. It’d better. We’ve got to go faster, or they’ll pass us. That’s what’s so great about the sport is that it’s cyclical, and it never ends,” Ross Chastain added.
