Jontay Porter’s lifetime ban by the NBA causes a frenzy on social media.
Jontay Porter
The NBA earlier today announced that Jontay Porter of the Toronto Raptors has been banned for life for going against the league’s policy on gambling.
According to the memo released by the league authorities, Porter was responsible for “disclosing confidential information to sports bettors, limiting his participation in one or more games for betting purposes and betting on NBA games.”
He had not played a game since March 22 while being investigated. As per the investigation, he gave inside information before the March 20 contest against the Sacramento Kings. Notably, the inside information was about his health status to someone he knew was into NBA sports betting.
Furthermore, he used the betting account of an associate to place bets up to $54,094 from January 2024 to March 2024. Although he didn’t bet on any games in which he played, he did place a bet on the Raptors to lose.
However, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, in a statement, said the league plans to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure this doesn’t occur again. Jontay Porter is the younger brother of Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr.
