“Calling out the Mayor is not WISE” Stephen A Smith blasts Kevin Durant for taking controversial dig at Eric Adams

Stephen A Smith blasted Kevin Durant for giving out his opinions on NYC Mayor Eric Adams, who Durant feels is exploiting or rather flexing his power blatantly to make a political statement in the field of sports, which doesn’t have any place for it. Recently Kevin Durant said that the vaccine mandates put in place by the NYC Mayor were nonsensical and were just a gimmick to make a statement as the mandates have prevented Kyrie Irving from playing any home games this season, due to which, the nets have suffered.

Politics and sports don’t really go hand in hand, but since the Covid Pandemic began, there have been a multitude of issues where players have felt the need to call out politicians for their blatant misuse of power, which has led to some of the sport losing its essence many a times. Kyrie Irving was at the center of this controversy as the player denied getting vaccinated at any cost, citing personal interests of not wanting to succumb to any sort of political pressure and therefore, he was barred from playing home games in the Nets’ city of New York.

When Kevin Durant dropped a 50+ point performance against the New York Knicks in Nets’ home arena, Kyrie Irving was there to witness Durant’s magic and was hyped after the game, as the player sat courtside for the entirety of the match, and went to embrace Durant post game, showing a sense of affection between both the players which hasn’t been lost to the Vaccine Mandates. With Irving not being able to enter the court, Stephen A Smith has definitely come in the background as he stands against Kevin Durant for the latter’s “unwise” comments.

Stephen A Smith decided to stand up against Kevin Durant in order to tell him that the decision that he took was unwise and wrong, but Smith also pointed out that he completely stood with Durant’s idea of the Vaccine Mandates which were absolutely “trash”. Stephen A Smith completely went all out in his support for the content of things said by Durant, and stated that no one in the league agrees with the trash mandates.

Smith pointed out the loopholes in the mandates and explained why it was useless as it allowed unvaccinated crowd to come in the arena, unvaccinated players from other teams to play in the arena, unvaccinated staff to work on the equipment in the arena, but didn’t allow the home team’s unvaccinated player, Kyrie Irving to play. Smith stated that the mandates were stupid and the Mayor Eric Adams needs to get rid of it, even though he isn’t responsible for it.

Smith then went on to explain why he called Durant’s decision of calling out the mayor unwise was because Adams is a politician. He asked Durant how was it going to work for him to call out a politician, and he felt that there was no reason to do it after he scored 53 points in a massive play as he led the way for his team towards a victory.

No matter what Durant might feel, Stephen A sounds right to some extent as Durant’s statements put him in more trouble instead of taking him and his team out of it. Anything that he says can be held against him in the future for daring to stand up against a politician, who according to him is actually “misusing” his power. It will now be interesting to see how all of this works out for Durant and if the Vaccine Mandates will be abolished or if stricter mandates would be put in place.
