“He is a real one”- Kevin Garnett defends LeBron James’ Competitive Spirit

One of the buzzing stories in the NBA for the past week has been LeBron James and Isaiah Stewart’s bloody scuffle. The altercation between these players happened on Sunday when the LA Lakers were hosted by the Detroit Pistons at the Little Caesars Arena.

Whatever transpired between these two players has been one of the reasons why there are conflicts between fans. Basketball is a sport that draws out a lot of contact at every step but not all are foul-worthy. So, what happens when one player tries to hold you but you try to smack their arm away but hit their face instead? These things were acceptable back in the 1990s but now they are either are labeled as “cheap shot” or “dirty play.”

NBA Legend Kevin Garnett appeared on Barstool Sports’ “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast this week and shared one of his instances with LeBron James. He said, “I wanted to see who was made of what,” he said of his run-ins with James. “A lot of people don’t know that Bron James, he doesn’t say it aloud, but he’ll s–t talk back to you. Bron a real one.”

LeBron James is a dominant player; so expecting him to back down from a trash-talking scenario is just not possible. His ferociousness is what makes him intimidating on the court and a force not to be reckoned with. But the recent incident with Isaiah Stewart has given away to people to label LeBron James as a ‘soft’ player.

ESPN’s Stephen A Smith didn’t think twice before comparing LeBron with Michael Jordan and calling him soft. Michael Jordan was brilliant in his game and the rules were different. Now, even the slightest of body contact can be deemed as a foul. LeBron is regarded as an eminent player in the NBA. His ruthless play, game sense, and dominant stature are what make him stand above everyone else. So, denigrating him and condensing him to nothing but soft is just disrespectful.

Shanon Sharpe on Undisputed shared his take on Garnett calling LeBron “the real one.” He said, “The perception is because LeBron isn’t boisterous or shoving people, that he’s soft. But all I know is that LeBron is who he is, he should never get out of character just to appease someone.”

The Football Hall Famer earlier this week also claimed that Lebron James shouldn’t be suspended over the scuffle. He stated, “I disagree with the rulings, he shouldn’t be suspended. I believe if Isaiah Stewart didn’t react the way he did, neither player would’ve been suspended.”

The things seemed to get serious when blood was gushing out from Isaiah Stewart’s upper eye. NBA is accustomed to usual banters on the court between players but the situation when involved blood takes an auster turn.

After a one-game suspension, LeBron James is back at playing and took the Lakers to victory in their yesterday’s game against the Indiana Pacers by 124-116. LeBron James dropped a whopping 39 points with 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The LA Lakers will face off the Sacramento Kings on Sunday.
