As the season comes to an end, the fate of the Los Angeles Lakers lies in the hands of its roster that has not done too well. The Lakers were favored to win out of the Western Conference led by none other than LeBron James, a four-time champion. This past offseason, the franchise felt the need to add on to their roster in a stacked free agency. What followed was a roster many thoughts was going to be the end game.
Among the acquisitions were Carmelo Anthony, Malik Monk, Dwight Howard, and obviously Russell Westbrook. His season did not turn out as expected which infuriated the Laker Nation. He had a tough time creating plays, shooting, and not turning over the ball which resulted in the “Westbrick” nickname. Recently, the player and his wife Nina Westbrook lashed out at the hater.
Russell Westbrook has yet to find a role on the LA Lakers
The 33-year old point guard found his new home last summer after signing with the Lakers in a trade involving the Washington Wizards. But as far as his season has been, the star might be on his way to a different home much before settling in. Westbrook’s reliability in the clutch has really shown a lot this season and it’s almost as if he has lost the athleticism he was once known for. He has not been consistent on the scoring end either.
This season he averages 18.1 points with 7.2 assists and 7.6 rebounds per game on 43.2% shooting. A perfect example of his lack of consistency showed in two of their most recent game. Against the Houston Rockets, he had 30 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists on 52.4% shooting in 39 minutes. The very next game, he had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists, a steal, and a block. He shot a very shocking 18.2% from the field and zero threes.
