Jaren Jackson Jr and JA Morant

On Friday night, the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Denver Nuggets in a nail-biting match by 122-118, the key role to win the game was played by JA Morant who dropped 38 points to secure the win and Jaren Jackson Jr provide a great backup as he scored 20 points, got 4 steals and 6 rebounds.

In this season it seems that JA Morant and Co. are on the mission to defeat every leading NBA team, they were previously on the 11-game winning streak that the Mavericks broke, but the Grizzlies are again gaining the pace to get the wins, they have won 12 out of their last 13 games.

Each player of the Grizzlies is contributing to the game, in offense JA Morant is leading the team and there is no doubt that he is doing great work, and the defense of the team is led by the center Jaren Jackson Jr who is averaging 2.2 blocks per game.

JJJ is performing brilliantly in defense and it’s natural for everyone to think that he might be a contender for defensive player of the year, but when the latest defensive rankings came out Jackson’s name was nowhere on the list which raised lots of questions on the credibility of the ranking.

JA Morant raised the same question and backed the candidacy of JJJ for DPOTY. Here is what JA Morant send the message to the haters, “His stats speak for themselves, and they’re deciding not to look at it.”

According to NBA Stats, Jackson’s rating is 105 which is better than the top three candidates of the DPOTY i.e., Draymond Green (98.8), Rudy Gobert (100.7), and Giannis Antetokounmpo (102.9) but he is still not in the race to compete.

Although, the situation changes after the top 5 where Joel Embiid and Evan Mobley have ratings of 104 but are still down in the list. So, it clarifies that defensive rating is not the only thing considered to choose the ‘Defensive Player of the Year’ but still Ja Morant view point can’t be ignored
