It required timeless practice hours and full focus to sacrifice the extra sleep hours and entertainment. The German Superstar retired in 2019 after playing 21 consecutive seasons with the Dallas Mavericks: making him the only player in the NBA history to have played for a single franchise for so long. During his time with the Dallas Mavericks, Dirk led them to 15 consecutive playoffs appearances and the franchise’s only NBA Championship Title won in 2011. Since his retirement, Dirk has been a special advisor for the Dallas Mavericks.

In a recent interview with The Athletics’ Dorothy Gentry, Dirk revealed the source of his motivation to stay focused.

He said, “I would think, ‘Kobe isn’t sleeping in and Tim Duncan isn’t sleeping in…”

Well, Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan were known for their high and intense competitive level. If they had time they’d either hit the gym or would be seen practicing on the court. They wouldn’t just accept a loss, not before giving everything they have. And, Dirk knew to compete with them meant to become hungry for improvement and growth.

Both Tim and Kobe are Hall of Famers and Dirk is on his way to becoming one as well. His peers were some of the leading factors in motivating him to become better and better at his game.

The Trio are some of the most beloved players in the Western Conference. Though most of the time the LA Lakers dominated the West but still whenever this trio would face others in a match then it has always been nothing but explosive. Their careers are ephemerals and will have a special place in NBA history.
