The Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry were well on their way to winning their fourth title this year. They had an exceptional start to the season with Curry leading the MVP rankings carrying the Warriors to the top of the league standings. Things took a better turn after Klay Thompson was announced to return and it seemed as if he never lost his form. The world dubbed the Warriors the favorites out of the Western Conference.
Following a gruesome loss against the Boston Celtics, Dub Nation has not been this far away from being called contenders the entire season until now. But the Warriors have noticeably experienced a slight slump losing games at a higher rate than before. However, the championship trio had made their first appearance together since 2019 only to return back to injuries.
Stephen Curry gets injured on a loose ball by Boston Celtics’ Marcus Smart
In a play that got a lot of heat, Marcus Smart took charge at getting the loose ball when he collided with Stephen Curry injuring his left ankle. Curry has had a major history with ankle injuries dating back to the year he got drafted. The reason why Smart received a lot of hate is that after bumping into Curry, he proceeded to defend Klay Thompson on an open layup and kicked him in a manner that seemed intentional.
“I thought it was a dangerous move. I thought Marcus dove into Steph, and that’s what I was upset about. We talked after the game and we’re good. But I thought it was a dangerous play.” said Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr. Teammate Draymond Green also responded to the incident saying, “I saw the kick, but shit happens. I’ve kicked somebody before. It is what it is. I can’t call it a dirty play. I would say it’s an unnecessary dive… if you said someone on the Celtics team dove for the ball, I’d tell you right away Marcus Smart dove for it.”

“Hell yeah, they over. And look, its not the lack of playing time. These guys have played together their entire career. They know how to find their chemistry. It’s about the others and when you saw Steve Kerr get mad the other night with Marcus Smart, yes it was about protecting Stephen Curry but it was about him having twelve games in the season and him trying to find his rotations, continuity and chemistry. “
Analyst Kendrick Perkins spoke about the Warriors having to reintroduce a new rotation that has the winning chemistry. In addition to that, he also mentioned that the Warriors (if Curry does not return for the playoffs) will have only their supporting teammates besides Thompson and Green. The Warriors staff after hopeful on Steph’s return for the playoffs but as of now he will remain out indefinitely. Results of an MRI say that he suffers from a sprained ligament without any bone damage.
