It is apparent of the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers are not at all what most of the world expected them to be, especially with the amount of experience and skill their players are capable of bringing to the game. We have seen LeBron James completely dominate the floor as if he were back in his 20s. We’ve seen glimpses of what “could have been” the Lakers. But their fate played out a different ball game altogether.

In an unfortunate battle, the Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 104-124. During the game, the Wolves players were not the kindest opponents towards the players in purple and gold.

After being ganged up by them, point guard Russell Westbrook spoke out about the incident saying, “I honestly don’t pay no mind to it, Maybe other guys. They weren’t talking to me. They were talking to individual guys, but the trash talking doesn’t bother me none. Nobody over there has done anything in this league.”

Westbrook did have many low moments during the 20-point loss against the Wolves. Karl Anthony and Patrick Beverley fired shots at one of Brodie’s missed attempts. Towns had repeatedly made gestures toward the crowds that night. The Wolves are most definitely having a much better season than the Lakers but were they justified for doing what they had done that night.

According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, the Wolves players were in the wrong. He fired back at the Timberwolves for their history of not achieving too much in the last two decades. He said, “To mock him like that, I was like ’damn, that’s kind of classless. Y’all could do better than that, especially when you’re Minnesota and you ain’t been doing anything for the better part of the last two decades. They having a good season now, congrats to you. But damn, it was a little excessive, a bit un-classy I might say”

Being called “classless” would not settle well with the person in the discussion. The self-proclaimed, “biggest shooting center of all-time,” Karl Anthony Towns spoke back at Smith taking offense to what had been said. “Now when we have a little fun with the game, now we being classless, Right? That’s what he said? Classless? It’s cool though, I understand. It was cool though when people was doing this (proceeds to imitate the rock the baby action of Westbrook) in people’s face right? It was cool, right? Alright, things came back to bite.”

The ongoing situation could only make the play-in tournament that much more interesting to watch. The Lakers and Timberwolves are expected to pair up in the tournament to determine the eighth seed. Before this, the Lakers will have to face the 10th seed in order to advance further against the 8th and 7th seed.
