Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving become the latest players to enter NBA Health and Safety Protocols

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving
More than 50 players have entered the NBA Health and Safety Protocols since the beginning of December and the latest to add to that list are Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. The former who has been a major MVP candidate and the sole reason why the Brooklyn Nets have maintained the top spot in the Eastern Conference. While the other was on the verge of making his debut for the Barclays Center team in the NBA 2021-22 season in the coming days.
After more than 7 players including the likes of James Harden have already been sidelined for the Steve Nash team after entering the Health and Safety Protocols. Now with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving too being unavailable, the Nets might not even have enough players to represent them on court. As a result of which their coming games could get postponed, the same as Chicago Bulls.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving’s absence to haunt Brooklyn Nets
To those who are not aware, the Brooklyn Nets now have nine players in the protocols. Forward Paul Millsap entered the protocols Monday and was followed by forwards LaMarcus Aldridge, James Johnson and DeAndre’ Bembry and guard Jevon Carter on Tuesday morning. They were joined Tuesday evening by James Harden and Bruce Brown.
With the minimum 10-day quarantine requirement, Kevin Durant could sit out until the Brooklyn Nets face, coincidentally, the 76ers again on December 30. The unfortunate development also means that the much-ballyhooed LeBron James vs Kevin Durant matchup on Christmas Day is not going to happen. Safe to say, with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving both out, the Nets could have a task on their hands, if they play their upcoming games.

Having said that, this is not the first time Durant has been in the league’s protocols for COVID-19. He tested positive in March 2020 during the season he sat out while recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon. Last season, he was deemed to be a close contact of someone who had tested positive and had to miss four games while he was placed in a seven-day quarantine.
