When the LA Lakers crashed out of the first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Suns in the 2020-21 season, many expected LeBron James led purple and gold army to bounce back in thunderous fashion in the upcoming season. But as the 2021-22 season began, the star-studded Lakers squad proved to be the second-best team as majority of their opponents seemed to have the answers for their lacklustre and inconsistent displays.

As a result of which, Lakers endured their worst defeat in over 1000 days via the hands of Denver Nuggets, who were without Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. Causing LeBron James to publicly come to and apologize to the Los Angeles Lakers squad. To those who are not aware, the Lakers haven’t won a single game against any team with a better win rate of .500 for over a month now.

Being on a 3-game losing streak, LeBron wrote on his official Twitter handle, “LakerNation I apologize and I promise we’ll be better.”
Over the past five games, the Lakers have surrendered an average of 123.4 points per game. Los Angeles has lost eight of 13 games since Anthony Davis suffered an MCL sprain on December 17. Their defensive rating — which was ninth in basketball when Anthony Davis went down, ranks 27th during that span, and they’ve given up the second-most points per game.
After the loss suffered against the Denver Nuggets, LeBron James did not speak to the media. But Magic Johnson came put to criticize the purple and gold army after not being able to live up to their hype in the 2021-22 season.

But with their marquee player coming out and apologizing, is this a turning point in the Lakers’ current campaign? Has the 4xNBA Finals MVP have had enough? It remains to be seen as the particular team locks horns against the Utah Jazz next.
