The NBA fraternity has witnessed some of the greatest trades in this generation. While players made huge impact moving out of their home, there were many players who left with the hope of a title. So, ‘what-ifs’ are something the NBA can chalk up on. LeBron James switched sides more than once in his career. While moving out of Cleveland Cavaliers, he went to Miami Heat, returned back to Cleveland and now has ended up with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, LeBron James’ first choice in 2018 was never the Los Angeles Lakers. The king wished to be a part of the New York Knicks. However, wife Savannah switched his choice over the purple and gold.

In 2018, LeBron James opted out of the Cavs to continue the legacy that Kobe Bryant left behind at the Los Angeles Lakers via unrestricted free agency. Having won 3 championship titles, LeBron James came to Los Angeles with a hope to win more. And so did he in the 2nd year itself. However, his first priority was not coming over to the Lakers. There was another team in LeBron’s mind. It was the New York Knicks! But Savannah, his wife persuaded Bron to join the Lakers.

Lisa Robinson, the journalist and writer highlighted about the change of events for LeBron James. She revealed it on ‘Brian Windhorst and the Hoop Collective’ show about the background of this fact. Lisa said, “We heard that LeBron wanted to come to New York. And I have really good sources about this, that he was thinking about coming to New York but that his wife wanted to be in Los Angeles, wanted the kids to go to school in Los Angeles, and that just kibosh’d the whole thing.”

If we rewind back to 2018, Knicks was dependent on the likes of Tim Hardaway, Enes Kanter, and DeAndre Jordan. However, the NY team finished the 2018-19 season with the worst record and didn’t qualify for the Playoffs. However, the turn of events this year for the team has been massive. Having Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, Derrick Rose and Tom Thibodeu has largely solidified their game.

If LeBron James was a part of the New York Knicks now, the team would have enough potential to the clinch #1 in the east. Nonetheless, he went ahead with purple-gold jerseys and the Lakers found their best deal. Things would have been quite different for James had he joined the Knicks in 2018. But, nobody will ever know how it would have turned out to be.
