Legend has it that Michael Jordan used to look around and try to find something to motivate him against his opponent. Sometimes it was comments from the players, sometimes the coaches, sometimes the trash-talk from an individual. The Chicago Bulls legend always found something to prove the person wrong for doubting or questioning him. His mentality made him so dominant in basketball, that even in heated situations, the opponents made sure they do not poke him.

During his last NBA Finals in 1998, Stuart Scott interviewed Michael Jordan. During the interview, Scott mentioned the incident right after Jordan won his 5th MVP. When Jordan won his 5th MVP, the next game he went out there and dropped 40. He later said I had to prove to people that I did deserve their votes. When Scott told the Bulls star that he has nothing to prove to people or the media. Jordan replied, “If I feel that way (not having to prove anything to anybody) then why am I competing?”

Mike later explained the reason that he still stays motivated and feels the need to still prove himself to people and himself for that matter. “It’s always gonna be in the back of your head as an appetite to prove something. Because that responsibility has been given to you as an individual,” Jordan said. “You always gonna have to live up to it,” he added.

The 6 x NBA Champion also added that it is the admiration of fans and the people for the sport that he feels like he has to leave up to it. “Admiration of people, for your sport, is enough to say that I have to live up to what their admiration is all about,” Jordan said. Michael is one of those players who never cheated game of basketball.

The six-time NBA champion also added that fans around the league expected him to play at a certain level and have a vision for his game that he has to live up to. “For the most part, when people look at the game and the way I play, they have a certain vision about how I should play it,” Mike said. Jordan considered them his responsibilities and tried to never let them down.  “Those are the responsibilities that I have to live up to,” Michael added.
