On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers missed the opportunity to finish their second-round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors, losing 121-106 at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The series will head back to the Crypto.com Center in LA for Game 6, but the Lakers could be without superstar forward Anthony Davis.
He exited Game 5 early in the fourth quarter after taking an elbow to the head from Warriors’ Kevon Looney when the duo was fighting for a rebound underneath the rim. Davis appeared to be fine in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and with the Lakers down 13 points, it seemed his exit from the game was more precautionary than necessary. However, the details that emerged once the Lakers superstar headed to the locker room should concern LeBron James and co.
Per TNT’s NBA insider Chris Haynes, Anthony Davis needed a wheelchair to be taken to the away locker room following his head injury. The Lakers had already announced their superstar forward won’t be taking any further part in Game 5, sealing the need for a Game 6 in LA.
Davis exited Game 5 with 23 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in 32 minutes. The Lakers’ hopes of advancing to the Western Conference Finals hinge heavily on his availability. In fact, the most recent report on his injury will be music to the ears of Lakers supporters. Davis, according to Haynes, avoided a concussion.

Anthony Davis injury update: Lakers HC provides HUGE UPDATE about Lakers star’s health
In addition to Haynes, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham also provided an update on Anthony Davis’ injury during the post-game presser. He replied, “He took a shot to the head. He seems to be doing really good already. That’s where he’s at and the status of it right now.“
While Ham’s update on Davis’ injury was reassuring, it’s too early to tell how severe the blow he took to his head was. However, it was big news for the Lakers as Davis avoided a concussion. His availability will be crucial for Game 6. With him absent, the Warriors will be in prime position to force a Game 7 in San Francisco, an outcome the Lakers would have been all too keen to avoid following their Game 4 win at home.
The Lakers will also be concerned about their chances without Anthony Davis after the Warriors’ performance in Game 5. Stephen Curry had another spectacular outing for the Warriors, scoring 27 points, dishing eight assists, and grabbing three rebounds. Draymond Green, who had struggled on the offensive end in this series, finished the night with 20 points, ten rebounds, and four assists. Andrew Wiggins, another player having a tough series on offense, scored 25 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists to help his side win 121-106.
With Anthony Davis’ injury and the offense finding their groove, Curry and the Warriors will be confident that they will force a Game 7. On the flip side, the Lakers will throw the kitchen sink at Golden State, with or without Davis, to avoid returning to San Francisco for a Game 7.
