Kevin Durant out of action for at least two weeks after suffering MCL sprain against Miami Heat
Kevin Durant has suffered MCL sprain according to Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN. Durant will be re-evaluated after 2 weeks. Last season KD missed 5 weeks with the MCL injury.
Kevin Durant on the floor
Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant had left the game against Miami Heat with an apparent knee injury. After the MRI on the injury, it was revealed on Monday that Durant had sustained an MCL sprain on his right knee. The injury had occurred when Heat star Jimmy Butler fell on Durant’s knee during a play in the 3rd quarter. KD grabbed his knee while he sat on the floor and did not get up until the medical staff and his teammate Kyrie Irving rushed to him.
According to NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN, the 2 x NBA champion will be re-evaluated in two weeks. “Kevin Durant will re-evaluate in two weeks with an MCL sprain.” Wojnarowski wrote on Twitter. Durant had an MCL injury last season as well and missed 6 weeks. However, according to the NBA Insider, there is a hope that he will miss less time than that. “There’s optimism Durant will miss less time than he did with a six-week absence last season; a significant sigh of relief around the Nets and their MVP candidate,” Wojnarowski said.
As Durant got up he limped a bit but tried to get back into the game. However, he soon went to the locker room limping. The severity of the knee injury wasn’t known until Durant got back to New York. Head coach Jacque Vaughn had said that Durant will get finally checked in New York when they get back. “Just right knee, he’ll get evaluated [in New York] and then hopefully I’ll have some more info for you,” Vaughn told the reporters. “Most likely it will include imaging just to make sure we’re good.”
What effect would Kevin Durant’s absence have on Brooklyn Nets?
Kevin Durant is one of the biggest stars in the league so it is imperative that his absence is going to hurt his team for a bit. He has unmatchable offensive skills for a 7ft player and is a great defender. For most of the season, the Nets’ defense has been running through Durant, and his injury will surely slow down their perimeter and paint attack. In Kevin’s absence, the offensive responsibility and the shot creation would fall on Kyrie Irving and other players which might be too hard for the team.
Durant was also having a great defensive season. He was the biggest reason for the Nets’ improved defense in the season. Before his injury, he was averaging 1.5 blocks into the season. The 12 x All-Star also took care of most of the defense on the Nets’ glass. Without him in the lineup, it would be difficult to win games for the Nets.
