“No sunlight, no nutrition” Brittney Griner has lost 60-70 pounds in HELLISH conditions in Russian prison
Brittney Griner has entered a phase in her arrest many have feared that would hurt her. In July, she pleaded guilty for being under possession of illegal substances in her luggage while checking in Russia Airport customs. In other terms, she was caught smuggling drugs which is a highly punishable action in Russia.
The WNBA was said to have been arrested in a penal colony. These places are not known for their leniency or good living conditions. The former Olympian will have to work in order to earn her daily necessities. Concerns on her health have been raised and her family in the US is restless.
Amy Manson, a hostage expert revealed the potential threats Brittney Griner will be facing in the penal colony.“They face the reality of poor nutrition, sometimes no access to fresh air or actual daylight. Some of our returnees face as much as 50 to 60 to 70 pounds lost.”
Brittney Griner’s prison swap is yet to be confirmed
Recently, President Joe Biden had announced that he along with his team were to meet with Brittney Griner’s family and address their plans on bringing back the Phoenix Mercury athlete back to her home. Reporter T.J Quinn sat down with ESPN’s Malika Andrews to discuss what had happened during the meeting.
“In some ways it’s a disappointing development for them. They’ve wanted a meeting all along but understood that these investigations are quiet, you don’t know what’s going on. There was a sign earlier this week when everyone learned that former US ambassador… had gone to Russia to meet with officials. Maybe that was a sign that he could bring back a deal the president could sign off on.”
“But now, the fact that they’re having this meeting and the White House said there’s nothing go announced yet, there’s some disappointment.” Quinn claimed that all Biden wants to do is ask for patience, but the Griner’s family may not be willing to do that at this moment.
