While there have been many speculations of President – Joe Biden and his administration trying to get Brittney Griner out of Russia. The truth of the matter is that the WNBA star is trapped in a Russian prison and is on course to serve her 9-year sentence.
Given that the political tensions between Russia and United States have been on the worse end due to invasion of the former country in Ukraine, Griner seems to be the most affected on this end. What problem has that caused for the WNBA star? The answer is simple – due to the same, her case became subject to a political trial and the US government said that she was wrongfully.
Can Joe Biden’s administration end Brittney Griner’s misery?
It’s been a month since America was to be involved in a prison swap with Russia, wherein Brittney Griner and one other country’s personnel was to be brought home. Yet those have all been just talk and no action. Recently, Joe Biden even got in touch with Griner’s wife and family to give them assurance about their loved one.
Moreover, it was reported that the US Secretary of State had conversations with his Russian counterpart. However, experts say that this would take some time, as both sides need to come to an amicable point. That being said, one of the most heart-breaking news at that time was reported, “As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever.”
When will America finally get their WNBA’s Tom Brady back at their turf? Remains to be a huge matter of speculation. Safe to say, there is still a ray of hope for Griner, as new reports suggest that the United States government is sending over an expert negotiator soon. But this is bound to take some time and Brittney Griner will likely have to wait for some more time. At least until both governments are able to strike a deal.
