Over the last few weeks, the country has experienced devastating losses of young children, elderly citizens, and a group of innocent lives. The American nation has a lot to work on in terms of human safety and limitations of general accessibility. Gun violence has been a very common issue prevailing in the United States over the last few years and the numbers have begun to look concerning.

Last week was a terrible shooting that took place at Uvalde, Texas, in an elementary school where 19 children and two teachers fell victim to an 18-year-old gunman. Salvador Ramos was the identified suspect who was eventually killed by the Border Patrol Officers. This tragic event left the nation in pieces and angered citizens who have been blasting the government for not implementing gun laws.

Ever since the shootings, many NBA players and coaches have been extremely vocal about their opinions on the condition of the laws in the country. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was one of the first people to express their concerns. Kerr infuriatingly called out the Senators of States on their ignorance saying that the citizens are being held hostage by them.

Last night, Ime Udoka, Head Coach of the Boston Celtics took a moment to express his thoughts during the post-game press conference. He said, “You sit back and think about 19 children, and two adults who don’t get that, that’s life or death, that’s real. That’s something that I don’t want to be forgotten… It just happened a week ago, and it seems to be pushed in people’s memory already.”

The Boston Celtics were able to hold off the Miami Heat and limit their scoring to help them run their offense better. The Celtics won 100-96 as the Heat had a tough time converting their shots. Boston shot 41.2% from the field, 34.4% from three, and 79.2% from the free-throw line being led by none other than Jayson Tatum who had 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart had a combined score of 48 points. Al Horford once again played exceptional defense and also recorded 14 rebounds. As the Boston Celtics qualify for the NBA finals against the Warriors, their defense will be the biggest asset to help stop Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson who run the team’s offense.  Warriors are much more distributed in terms of skill which may help them go the distance.
