Charles Barkley has been a part of many controversial headlines during his basketball career. The story is the same during his retirement as he works in the media as an analyst. He is just not afraid of any controversies and always backs up what he believes is right while strongly voicing for it. But Barkley once got in big trouble for his insensitive comments on Breonna Taylor’s murder. As he separated the case from other cases which were an example of police brutality and racism.

Breonna Taylor a 26-year-old black woman was shot dead in her apartment on March 13, 2020. Seven police officers made their way into her apartment at midnight while investigating a drug dealing operation. She and her boyfriend were asleep at that time and thought some intruders got in. This led her boyfriend Kenneth Walker to fire a shot towards them with his legally owned gun. But the bullet hit one of the officers and then they fired 32 shots towards Taylor and her boyfriend.

Breonna Taylor was struck with 6 bullets and died on the spot. Charles Barkley, discussing the unfortunate and tragic event disappointed many around. As he said: “I don’t think this one was like George Floyd or Ahmaud Arbery and things like that. I feel sad that this young lady lost her life. I think this one was — the no-knock warrant is something we need to get rid of … across the board. But I am worried to lump all these situations in together.”

Charles Barkley didn’t just stop there and went on to point out how her boyfriend shot a cop which forced them to fire back. He added: “And I just feel bad that the young lady lost her life. But we do have to take into account that her boyfriend shot at the cops and shot a cop. So like I say, even though I am really sorry she lost her life, I just don’t think we can put this in the same situation as George Floyd or Ahmaud Arbery.”

Breonna Taylor’s murder led to several protests around the country. People called out police brutality and racism during those protests. Many athletes even supported this campaign. But Charles Barkley received a lot of backlash for his take on the tragic event.

Shaquille O’Neal also shared a Charles Barkley-like take on Breonna Taylor’s murder case

In the very same segment of “NBA on TNT,” Shaquille O’Neal agreed with Charles Barkley and his controversial and disappointing take on Breonna Taylor’s murder case.

Shaq said: “I have to agree with Charles, this one is sort of lumped in. You have to get a warrant signed and some states do allow no-knock warrants. And everyone was asking for murder charges. When you talk about murder, you have to show intent. A homicide occurred and we’re sorry a homicide occurred. When you have a warrant signed by the judge, you are doing your job, and I would imagine that you would fire back.”

People didn’t show no mercy to Shaquille O’Neal and just like Charles Barkley even he received a lot of backlash. Both the NBA legend since then have stayed mum and away from this topic. They should have some a better job on facts and the case before discussing it and ending up disrespecting the community. Their comments were misinformed and based on the partial truth presented by the department earlier.
