Charles Barkley and Russell Westbrook
NBA Hall of Famer and Inside the NBA host Charles Barkley roasted Los Angeles Lakers star Russell Westbrook after his let off season with the team and him also failing to make the playoffs this season. Westbrook faced harsh criticism from fans and analysts around the league as he was supposed to play a pivotal role in leading Los Angeles Lakers to another championship. Despite the fact that Westbrook has the opportunity to become a free agent and depart L.A. this summer, all signs point to him activating his $47.1 million player option by June 29 and spending the off season with the Lakers.
There is nothing that can be done to save the situation. He’s adamant about not adapting and oblivious to the fact that he must. Unless the Lakers are ready to risk another James-Davis season, their best alternative is to trade Westbrook or send him home and continue without him next season. Even with a new head coach and if the Lakers can somehow strengthen their supporting cast with players that complement Westbrook’s skill set, there is little indication that Westbrook can be the player the Lakers need him to be.

Charles Barkley talks about Russell Westbrook on the Dan Patrick Show

Barkley on the Dan Patrick Show called Westbrook “stubborn” and implied that he isn’t the player he was, 10 years ago and he won’t be how hard he tries. He quoted: “As a player as you get older, you have to work on your strengths and try to limit your weaknesses. He has to make sacrifices, he has to really work on his shooting and a part of his greatness is his stubbornness”. He also quoted “I’d say, ‘Hey Russ, call Reggie Miller, let’s get in the gym and just shoot’. Just shoot because the problem he’s gonna have if he doesn’t play well this year, his NBA career might be over”
Russell Westbrook’s career can be prolonged, according to Barkley, if he improves his shooting. He believes the Los Angeles Lakers player should seek guidance from 5-time All-Star Reggie Miller on how to improve his shooting.

Miller is considered as one of the greatest shooters in league history. Westbrook relies on his shooting expertise. If the former MVP is losing ground, he, like other veterans, will need to add aspects to his game to adapt. The 2022-2023 NBA season will be crucial for Russelll Westbrook.

As a result, we understand that each candidate for the Lakers’ head coaching job was probed about his utilisation of Westbrook and the players. This means that, barring a surprise and an irresistible offer, Westbrook will be in place for the start of the season considering Ham’s new position, the former Bucks assistant already has some fantastic ideas for how to make Russ shine. This would entail not only giving him the ball more frequently, but also requiring him to participate in the game on a more regular basis, even when the swell is not in his hands.
