Chicago Bulls may trade their former fourth-overall pick, Patrick Williams for $125 million
Patrick Williams
The Chicago Bulls are a squad that needs to choose a lane more than just about any other NBA team. Before Lonzo Ball’s knee injury drama started, Chicago’s great start to last season may have led some team members to believe they had a genuine winner on their hands. But a year later, the squad is 19-23 and has obvious problems all over the roster. The Bulls brass must decide if this can be saved with some minor deck shifting or if it is finally time to call it quits on a project that is clearly not going to be profitable.
Former No. 4 overall pick Patrick Williams best exemplifies the team’s conundrum, maybe more so than any other player. At times, like when he went for 35 on the penultimate day of the 2021–22 season, he seems a potential franchise cornerstone. Then there are the times when he acts timidly and is unprepared for the situation. The Bulls’ decision as to whether or not to be patient with him will depend on the path they take. If they decide to move on, they can trade the veteran in the transfer window. One league GM thinks they could be able to transfer the youngster for $125 million if they decide to move on.
Bulls take a stand in Alex Caruso and Patrick Williams trade negotiations
It’s possible that the Chicago Bulls (19-23) will influence the NBA trade deadline, which is rapidly approaching. They were defeated by the Washington Wizards 100–97. This kept them one half-game behind the Atlanta Hawks for ninth place in the Eastern Conference. Additionally, it kept the rumors about their plans for the deadline on February 9 alive. “From what I’ve heard from executives, Patrick Williams and Alex Caruso are not for sale right now in Chicago,” Michael Scotto said during the ‘HoopsHype Podcast’ on January 11. According to Scotto, one executive said that the Bulls had kept Pat Williams around for too long, which had diminished his worth. The executive said that they might receive a respectable return on Caruso if they wanted to restructure their squad.
The Bulls overvalued Williams, according to competitor executives, and this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that. Williams, 21, was predicted to make a significant improvement this season but has so far progressed more slowly than anticipated. Over the past five games, he has averaged 12.6 points on 62.1% true shooting, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.0 assists. At the same time, he is also making 50% of his threes.
