Chris Paul has been one of the most authentic point guards in the NBA throughout his career. However, the guard seems to be in troubled waters of late. Paul suffered an unfortunate groin injury in the Western Conference Finals. Subsequently, he was unable to come back on the basketball court as the Phoenix Suns lost to the Denver Nuggets.
Following another failed postseason run to win the championship, the Phoenix Suns are looking to rebuild their entire core. After Head Coach Monty Williams, Chris Paul has been notified that he would not be returning to the organization for the next NBA season. As per Chris Haynes, the Suns have informed Paul that he will be waived by the franchise making him a free agent for the 2023-24 NBA season.
Chris Paul was on a four-year $120 million deal with the Phoenix Suns. However, after being waived, he could be a target for teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. The Lakers have played with two prolific guards in the 2022-23 NBA season. However, with D’Angelo Russell’s uncertain future at the organization, LeBron James could turn to Paul as a replacement.
The Boston Celtics, too, could explore the veteran guard as an option. Despite their consistent playoff appearances, the Celtics have not won a championship. One of the primary reasons would be the subpar performances of guards Derrick White and Marcus Smart during crunch time. Boston could, therefore, look at someone like Chris Paul and see an opportunity to strengthen their roster.
