Chris Paul has been one of the most respected and authentic point guards in the NBA. After being drafted by the New Orleans Hornets in 2005, Paul has played for multiple teams, leading most of them to an impressive campaign. Although he hasn’t won an NBA championship yet, he is regarded as one of the best in the business. However, after his recent tenure with the Phoenix Suns, reports of the guard being potentially sent away have surfaced.

Chris Paul suffered an unfortunate groin injury at a pivotal point of the Suns’ postseason run. After he was unable to come back, the team suffered a Conference Semi-Finals loss to the Denver Nuggets. Following their elimination, many were disappointed with the guard’s absence. Subsequently, the Suns are reported to be considering waiving, trading, or stretching his contract. NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski spoke in detail about the reports.

“I’m told that the Phoenix Suns and Chris Paul, his representatives had a series of conversations today to start discussing his future in Phoenix, including the possibility that the organization could use the waive and stretch provision on his contract prior to the June 28 date that guarantees his contract,” said Adrian Wojnarowski.

“I’m told Chris Paul and his reps, they want an answer on his future sooner than that June 28 deadline,” he said. “They want to know if they’re headed into free agency where he would be certainly very coveted especially with the two teams in L.A; the Clippers, the Lakers, where he still keeps his offseason home.”

The Los Angeles Lakers currently have two impressive, prolific guards in Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell. However, the Lakers might have trouble keeping Russell due to multiple surfacing reports indicating his unwillingness to come off the bench. Subsequently, LA would be on the lookout for a new effective, and versatile point guard.

They could explore one of LeBron James‘ former teammate in Kyrie Irving. However, the Dallas Mavericks guard has expressed his interest in staying with his current team. If the Lakers are unable to pull Irving, and with Paul looking for a new team, the match could be an instant agreement. More importantly, Chris Paul and LeBron James have been on excellent terms throughout their careers.
