The Denver Nuggets have had an outstanding season this year. They’ve played really well and have looked tight as a unit. Even though Nikola Jokic has been the front-running player of the side, there’s no doubt in saying that he has received invaluable assistance from Jamal Murray. Murray has been an absolute prolific asset on the court for the Denver Nuggets. Although he was out with an injury last time, he has proved why his presence is essential to the side.

As Jamal Murray keeps on performing at the highest order, fans and critics believe he is easily one of the best players in the world. Moreover, many call the guard a superstar for his impressive consistency and comeback from injuries. However, Murray doesn’t have the fame and glamour as some of the other players in the league. That is exactly what NBA analyst Colin Cowherd pointed out as he responded to the guard being called a superstar.

“Jamal Murray has 1.1 million Instagram followers. Lonzo Ball has 17 million, LiAngelo Ball has three.” Colin Cowherd started responding to a Sports Illustrated title. “Superstar equals popularity not just production.” he started. “Star equals high production in your sport. Devin Booker is a star. Jaylen Brown’s a star. Superstar is production, endorsements, popularity, titles, you get mobbed at the mall. You’ve got multiple national commercial. 10 million plus, 15 million plus on Instagram.”

He went ahead to call John Elway a bigger superstar than Murray in Denver. “John Elway is bigger today in Denver than Jamal Murray. John Elway hasn’t played like 20 years, 30 years. So star is production. Superstar is production plus titles plus popularity plus endorsments plus people freaking out in a mall,” he added.

Cowherd highlights that a player’s performance on the basketball court does not automatically place him as a superstar since it is more about popularity than ability in the athlete’s chosen sport.

While Jamal Murray has proven to be one of the best guards in the league, he’s nowhere near as popular as some of his peers around the league.

In Game 4 against the Miami Heat, the Nuggets guard scored a modest 15 points with 12 assists. However, for the season as an aggregate, Jamal Murray has averaged a commendable 20 points per game with 4.0 rebounds and 6.2 assists. In the playoffs, he has climbed up even further with averages of 26.7 points per game, with 5.5 rebounds and 7.1 assists. Murray has been the perfect definition of a team player for the Denver Nuggets.

He has been a phenomenal secondary to Nikola Jokic. Moreover, the tandem with which they both have played has been the key reason behind the Nuggets’ dominance. As they are just one win away from winning their first championship, both Murray and Jokic would like to finish the job at home. As Denver Nuggets head back to the Ball Arena for Game 5, they would have the entire building cheering for them, waiting to be celebrated as heroes.
