“Westbrook CAN’T shoot, Simmons WONT shoot” Colin Cowherd hilariously disses potential Nets lineup if Kyrie Irving departs
Colin Cowherd, Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook
In the next days, a Russell Westbrook-Kyrie Irving trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets may result in a genuinely ground-breaking, blockbuster transaction. This is because the trade rumours between these two teams are continuing to build momentum. It goes without saying that if a trade between these two of the biggest (and most controversial) players in the league were to go through, it would throw the basketball community into a mild frenzy.
If this deal does occur, according to Colin Cowherd of “The Herd”, the Nets will be “something extraordinary,” most likely not in a good way. However, the NBA analyst is already considering the effects a trade involving Russ and Kyrie may have on their new team. Cowherd focused on the Nets’ potential benefits from a Westbrook and Ben Simmons connection in particular. We can safely say that Mr. Cowherd doesn’t exactly have much confidence in this duo.
Colin Cowherd with a harsh take on the Russell Westbrook-Kyrie Irving trade
According to Chris Haynes, negotiations between the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers to swap Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving are progressing. There is “palpable confidence” that the two parties may come to an agreement this summer, although other factors would need to be included. Since his star teammate Kevin Durant asked the Nets for a trade, Irving is anticipated to be dealt despite having just chosen to enter the final year of his contract for $36.4 million. Even if the two parties aren’t close to reaching a deal, the fact that negotiations have reached this point is encouraging for Los Angeles in their efforts to sign Irving and get rid of Westbrook.
Given his prior injury history and the fact that he just finished a season in which he only participated in 29 games due to his refusal to acquire the COVID-19 vaccination, Irving hasn’t played 70 games in a season since 2017. The Lakers have been attempting to move Westbrook since the midst of the previous season, only months after their first acquisition. However, this is much easier said than done. He just chose to enter the $47 million last year of his deal. Despite all indications that the veteran guard is a poor fit for the Lakers, one of the key reasons they haven’t traded for Westbrook is their reluctance to give up first-round picks.

In a recent tweet, NBA expert Colin Cowherd reacted to the potential Westbrook-Irving trade talks taking place. He implied that, if the trade takes place, it wouldn’t be doing Brooklyn any favors. He stated that Westbrook can’t shoot and Ben Simmons is afraid to shoot and he’s ready to monitor the new look Nets which might be interesting to watch.
It is obvious that Cowherd was using sarcasm when he included the word “special” in his tweet, and for a worthwhile purpose. We all know that Simmons has developed a reputation for being a little tentative when it comes to taking a shot, as Westbrook was terrible from the field last season with the Lakers. If the Nets’ backcourt is headed by Westbrook and Simmons next season, shooting may be a little bit of a problem for them, as Cowherd predicted.
