Last October, the Golden State Warriors placed a significant bet on Jordan Poole by agreeing to a four-year, $123 million contract deal. However, as the team faces elimination from the playoffs, Poole’s inconsistent performance has prompted questions about whether the investment was wise.

In Game 4 against the Los Angeles Lakers, Poole was held scoreless in 10 minutes off the bench. This lack of production has been throughout the series, and some commentators and analysts are calling for changes to the Warriors’ roster.

Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports suggests, trading Poole to the Boston Celtics for Jaylen Brown. Cowherd believes that Brown would complement Warriors star Steph Curry better and that Poole’s exit would clear the way for a more talented supporting cast.

“Win or lose, I think the Celtics have to make a move, and I’ll throw this out to you. Jalen Brown and Jayson Tatum doesn’t necessarily work because Brown’s got more alpha, but Tatum’s the better player. But if you brought Jordan Poole and [Andrew] Wiggins in from the Warriors, Tatum would be clearly the best player”

Cowherd added:

“The Warriors get Jaylen Brown and Malcolm Brogdon off the bench, so you get great bench scoring potentially, and you get a much better defensive player next to Steph so you wouldn’t have to rely on Gary Payton as much. Because Steph… there are some limitations [to] what he can do defensively.”

It remains to be seen whether the Warriors will pay attention to this advice, or whether they will stick with Poole and hope that he can regain his form in the future. For now, the team is focused on the task at hand: climbing out of a 3-1 series deficit against LeBron James and the Lakers.

Cowherd’s proposal to trade Jordan Poole for Jaylen Brown is just one of many ideas circulating among NBA analysts and fans as the playoffs heat up. But it’s worth considering why this particular trade might make sense for both teams.

Brown would give the Warriors’ roster a much-needed boost of talent and experience. The 26-year-old guard, who averaged 26.6 points per game this season, has been a crucial player for the Celtics over the previous several seasons. He would compliment Curry’s playmaking abilities and help take some of the pressure off the Warriors’ superstar.

The Warriors’ backcourt would be strengthened by Brown’s defensive skills, which would lessen the need to rely on players like Gary Payton II. The Warriors may be able to vary up their defence more with Brown in the starting lineup.

Poole would be an interesting acquisition for the Celtics, who are in need of more depth in the backcourt. In his brief career, the 23-year-old guard has displayed flashes of brilliance, and his ability to score could help fill the gap left by Brown’s departure. Poole is a valuable asset for a team looking to the future because of his youth and potential.
