“And I’ll beat your a**,” Damian Lillard was ready to settle down beef with CHIRPING Patrick Beverly during the Lakers-Blazers showdown
Damian Lillard and Patrick Beverley got into verbal altercation in a game between the Lakers and the Blazers. The history is the testament to their sour relationship, as it has been for almost a decade.
Lillard and Baverley
Things got heated between Patrick Beverley and Damian Lillard in a game against Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trailblazers. The feud between Patrick Beverley and Lillard is nothing new to NBA fans. They have been going at each other for almost half a decade. Interestingly, the Lakers’ player was guarding the Portland superstar for most of the game.
Portland was ahead 40-38 as Lillard stood at the line for his free throws when Beverley began to yell at him. During the brief altercation, Dame retaliated and said “I’ll beat your ass.” The Blazers star also stepped towards Pat Bev as if wanted to get even with him. Players and officials had to separate the two. Beverley received a technical foul and Lillard was given another opportunity to attempt a free throw.
The Lakers were down 25 points by half-time and had very less hope of winning the game. However, they had another plan ready as they came back in the third and the fourth quarter to beat the blazers. LeBron James scored game-high 37 points with excellent efficiency from the field. Thomas Bryant, who has been crucial in Lakers victories scored season-high 31 points and also added 14 massive rebounds. Lillard scored only 24 points, shooting below 30% from the field.
Timeline of rivalry between Damian Lillard and Patrick Beverley
On March 9, 2014, with 15 seconds remaining, the Rockets were down by two points and the rivalry had just begun. Beverley then pleaded with the officials while placing his palm on Lillard’s chest. Dame retaliated against Beverley, sparking a verbal battle. After the game, Lillard expressed his unhappiness with Beverley’s actions, calling them “not basketball.” In response, Beverley stated that she was “not a huge fan of that” and that the Portland All-Star “whines.”
In the 2013–14 playoffs, Beverley and Lillard once more squared off, and in the six-game series, Dolla dominated Beverley by averaging 25.5 points, 6.7 assists, and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the field. He also dealt Portland its decisive victory in Game 6 with a long three-pointer at the horn. Portland won 99-98. The victory gave the Blazers their first series victory since 2000 in postseason play.
During the 2016 season, Lillard and Beverley got into another altercation. Lillard was unable to stand up because of the blows Beverley hit him to the head and chest. Players and coaches had to separate the two players. The beef renewed when Pat joined Clippers and exchanged heated words on social media after Blazers lost the postseason series to Clippers.
