“Just a kid from Compton” DeMar DeRozan becomes 50th player in NBA history to reach 20,000 career points milestone
DeMar DeRozan
DeMar DeRozan is often overlooked by experts and NBA associates. Despite having one of the most flawless forms in the league the former All-Star has not been given enough praise for his work. He is one of the few very players in today’s league that resemble Kobe Bryant’s style of playing. Not to forget that he is an exceptional leader.
Last season he made his debut with the Chicago Bulls. This is the third team he has played for since joining the NBA in 2009. He spent nine seasons as the Toronto Raptor’s leader alongside veteran point guard Kyle Lowry. The pair became one of the most iconic duos before their split in 2018 when De-Bo got traded to the San Antonio Spurs.
After three seasons of turmoil, he finally landed a fitting spot with the Bulls. It has been smooth sailing for him this season playing alongside rising star Zach LaVine. He achieved a very prestigious career feature that only fifty other players have been able to hold to their name. The player crossed the 20,000 career points milestone against his former team.
He scored 33 points for the night and made a historic appearance. His former coach Gregg Popovich honored him by calling a timeout to simply congratulate him mid-game. Last season, Stephen Curry had the honor of cracking the list of this milestone. DeMar DeRozan’s college team USC Men’s Basketball congratulated him (via Twitter) saying, “Just a kid from Compton.”
DeMar DeRozan revives the Chicago Bulls
Being his first season, DeMar DeRozan quickly rose above everybody while becoming the team’s top scorer for the season. He averaged 27.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game shooting 50.4% from the field. The Bulls were a promising team early on in the season but crumbled during the playoffs due to injuries.
After slipping away from post-season success, the Bulls return back to the courts hungry for redemption. Despite going 3-3 in the season so far, DeRozan’s 26.2 points per game is one of their main power points. LaVine’s on-and-off presence has been a mild drawback but the team will bounce back once he is fully healthy in rotation.
