Despite a 7-game winning streak, Shaquille O’Neal makes bold prediction on Knicks’ playoff aspirations

One of the NBA’s hottest teams at the moment is the resilient – New York Knicks. This reality is amply demonstrated by the fact that this squad has won seven consecutive matches. Shaq, a Hall of Famer, isn’t quite on board with the Knicks hype train amid their current hot streak.

O’Neal dropped a harsh reality bomb on New York fans during a recent NBA on TNT show on their season’s playoff hopes. “I don’t think they can get out of one round of the playoffs,” Shaq stated. To be fair, the legendary player for the Los Angeles Lakers did state that he thinks the Knicks will go to the postseason.

With a 17-13 record at the moment, they are now sixth in the Eastern Conference and are rapidly improving. New York might pose a serious threat to the East if they continue to play in this manner.

But Charles Barkley, Shaq’s co-host on NBA on TNT, has chosen to support O’Neal in this argument. After putting the spotlight on the Knicks’ current run, Sir Charles even went one step farther with his critique. “I’m with you Shaq,” Barkley agreed. “Whoop-de-doo … They’re playing great, but they’re not even the best team in their city.”

Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal don’t always concur on the same subjects. However, it is evident that their agreement on a particular issue was made possible by their lack of faith in the Knicks and their chances of making the playoffs this season. Fans of New York won’t take this well, though.

The New York Knicks’ misery has ended. The Knicks have finally ended their eight-game winless streak when the Golden State Warriors visit New York, extending back to 2014, thanks to outstanding efforts from guards Jalen Brunson and Immanuel Quickley.

While Quickley, who came off the bench and scored 22 points, performed like a fireball in New York’s 132-94 victory at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, the Knicks received 21 points from Brunson. Quickley also shot 5-for-6 from beyond the line.

Despite the absence of Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins for the Warriors, New York’s outstanding performance, which helped the Knicks advance to 18-13, shouldn’t be diminished significantly. While this was happening, Golden State’s 15-17 record saw them fall farther below .500.

Before defeating the Warriors on Tuesday, New York hadn’t defeated Golden State at home since February 2013. In that contest, the Knicks prevailed 109-105 despite Curry’s 54-point rampage. Curry’s eruption was mitigated by a combination of Carmelo Anthony and JR Smith, who each scored 35 and 26 points.
