“He was talking a little smack when we lost” Dillon Brooks sends Klay Thompson a stern warning ahead of Christmas day matchup
Klay Thompson and DIllon Brooks
Klay Thompson of the Warriors and Dillon Brooks of the Memphis Grizzlies are 2 important players of their respective franchises, now with Stephen Curry injured all responsibility falls on Klay’s shoulders. The Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies engaged in a tense six-game series in the 2022 Western Conference playoffs and despite the fact that the series occurred more than seven months ago, the quarrel appears to still exist between Thompson and Brooks.
When questioned about Steph Curry’s absence from the teams’ impending rematch on Christmas Day at Chase Center, Grizzlies standout Dillon Brooks made it plain he still remembers some of the trash talks that occurred in the spring. Speaking on the matter Brooks said “[It pisses me off] a little bit. I hope [Curry] plays, though, But I got Klay [Thompson]. I like that matchup a little better because he was talking a little smack before when we lost.”
When Brooks fouled Gary Payton II in a Flagrant 2 during the West semifinals, fracturing the then-Golden State guard’s elbow, Warriors coach Steve Kerr yelled at him for violating “the code.” “Good work, Dub Nation,” remarked Thompson following the game when Brooks was jeered by the Warriors’ home fans in Game 4 after serving a one-game ban for the foul. Then, in the critical Game 6 of the series, Brooks was penalized for pushing Curry in the back. Following the foul, Thompson jumped to the Splash Brother’s defense and shoved Brooks.
Tough responsibility on Klay Thompson’s shoulders in Stephen Curry’s absence
Without its best player, an NBA team struggles to compete. No exception applies to the Warriors. Without Stephen Curry, they’ll have to figure out a way to stay in the playoff race. Curry has not been on the squad this season, and they have gone 0-3 without him. In Steph Curry’s absence over the last four seasons, the Warriors have a 24-66 record. They will have to rely on Jordan Poole, who is expected to start in Curry’s place. It will be up to Draymond Green to act as a playmaker and set up goals for other players.
The Warriors’ current scenario will draw attention to Klay Thompson as well. Thompson has now played for a whole season following the horrific injuries that forced him to miss two years of action. To get the team across the finish line, he will have to take up a portion of the scoring load. If not, the team might be in jeopardy and his future might be in doubt.
