Donovan Mitchell and Caris LeVert combined score combined 82-points to help the Cavaliers in fourth straight victory
Donovan Mitchell and Caris LeVert
Donovan Mitchell has been a very consistent scorer ever since he set foot into the league. After playing under a stagnant franchise for five seasons it was certainly time he got a fresh start of his own. Now he seems to have found his perfect home with the Cleveland Cavaliers who have been slowly making noise in the Eastern Conference.
After being traded from the Jazz during the off-season there were several expectations put forth by fans and experts. Surprisingly it seems as if the former All-Star has been filling in holes on the roster. The Cavaliers are currently the third seed in the East with a 4-1 record.
During their latest game against last season’s finalists, Donovan Mitchell and guard Caris LeVert scored a combined 82-points (41-points each) to help lead the team past the Boston Celtics. This is a stat line that has not been recorded in a while. The last time this took place was in 2016 when LeBron James and Kyrie Irving had done the exact same during Game 5 of the NBA finals.
The Cavs have not shown many struggles since the start of the season. This is an incredibly good sign for a team that has been rebuilding its roster since LeBron’s departure in 2018. LeVert is also a threat to be reckoned with considering his tendencies of exploding on offense.
Donovan Mitchell elevates the Cleveland Cavaliers to potential title contenders
There was certainly no bad blood between Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz. They initially traded former DPOY Rudy Gobert in an attempt to get past their stagnant progress. Once the center was shipped, it was only a matter of weeks before Mitchell was traded in exchange for Lauri Markkanen, Colin Sexton and a few picks including their 2022 draft selection.
The Cavaliers were certainly trying their best last season to make it to the playoffs. They clinched a spot among the play-in tournament berths but ultimately succumbed to the Atlanta Hawks in their battle for the eighth seed. Mitchell, also known as the “Spida” can certainly give a major boost to the team alongside LeVert and defensive juggernaut Jarrett Allen.
