The Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green received his fifth NBA suspension on Wednesday. The suspension pertains to raising an on-court fight and forcibly grabbing Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert near the neck in an unsportsmanlike and hazardous manner.
Joe Dumars, executive vice president of basketball operations, released a statement announcing the penalty on behalf of the league. Green’s “history of unsportsmanlike acts” was cited by the statement as justification for the punishment. Gobert, Klay Thompson, and Jaden McDaniels also received fines of $25,000 from the NBA.
However, the punishment for Draymond seemed much less, according to the NBA fans. Green’s act remains quite dangerous, and everyone felt Green deserved more than a game suspension. Many people thought Gobert receiving the fine seemed unfair. NBA fans felt Gobert tried to de-escalate the situation and had the best of intentions. Nevertheless, he received a fine.
Green will miss his first two games against the Oklahoma City Thunder, followed by games against the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Phoenix Suns. On November 28th, against the Sacramento Kings, he can make a comeback. However, in terms of missed games and lost revenue, Green will suffer the most. He will lose out on $769,704 in pay due to the suspension.
Fans furious about the five-game suspension of Draymond Green
Before giving you what fans think, let’s have a recap of how the incident took place. The incident happened not long after tipoff. Warriors guard Klay Thompson and Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels got caught up as Golden State advanced the ball in transition with less than two minutes remaining into a scoreless game. Klay stretched Jaden’s jersey there because both players were vying for the ball after a rebound.

It didn’t take seconds before they started pushing each other to the floor, and everyone came to separate them. But no one knew Draymond would come as thinking of choking Rudy around the neck. It may be the heat of the moment, but was not the right decision to make. Now, fans thought that Draymond should be punished with greater punishment, and fans tagged Draymond as the first black person to have white privilege, which is a lot to take.
Fans expressed their anger about the four-time NBA champion receiving a favorable suspension. Green has a history of such conduct but this time he took it to a new level. Fans wanted Green to receive a longer suspension.
