Dwayne Wade lauds Russell Westbrook for extending his NBA career by options to operate from the bench
Russell Westbrook and Dwyane Wade
Dwyane Wade is gushing over the new Russell Westbrook that the league is witnessing in the 2022–2023 season. The Los Angeles Lakers point guard has accepted and excels in a new role as a reserve player. Everyone has complimented him for taking this position as well as for his contributions as the team’s sixth player. In fact, several teams are already interested in hiring him even if it isn’t through trade.
Russ continues to succeed for the Lakers as Darvin Ham, who has made the appropriate adjustments for the Purple and Gold, is in charge. Although Anthony Davis is now performing at a high level, Russell Westbrook also merits praise for his efforts. The former NBA MVP is already gaining from this new way of playing the game, and many people have noticed how well Russ is doing right now. One of them is Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade, who was quick to laud the player and claim that he was in the ideal situation to succeed.
Speaking on the matter Dwayne Wade said, “It’s not his ability not to be able to do anything. It’s just that sometimes it’s about the situation. So, at this age, at this time, with this team right now, the best situation for Russ was to come off the bench and be able to have the freedom that he has to just be Russ. To not have to overthink all the time about, O.K., LeBron. O.K., I got to get the ball to AD. O.K., I got to shoot this. O.K., I don’t want to shoot. He doesn’t have to think as much. Russ has now put himself in a better situation by coming off the bench.”
He further added, “If I wanted to keep playing another two, three years, I would’ve loved being in that same role. I would’ve had an amazing last three years of just having fun in that role. Coming off the bench playing 20 to 25 minutes a game … [Russell Westbrook] made a great decision to prolong his career.”

Russell Westbrook linked to a possible trade with the Miami Heat
Russell Westbrook was benched after a sluggish start to the season and has since excelled. It will still be difficult for the Lakers to locate a trading partner because of his albatross contract. But one NBA rival team, at least, is allegedly interested in pursuing Westbrook should he find himself on the buyout market as a result of his positive recent performance. Various NBA sources have listed the Miami Heat as a potential destination for Westbrook as a post-trade buyout candidate.
Any other point guard the Heat currently have on their roster would be inferior to Westbrook. Kyle Lowry, who is now 36, has obviously slowed down and is shooting the ball at a rate that is even lower (39.5%) than Westbrook.
Not to mention that Gabe Vincent, their backup, is also having a bad year after having a big part for this Heat squad last season. Therefore, Miami Heat general manager Andy Elisburg should contact the Lakers about their backup point guard as there isn’t much depth at the floor general position.
