“We didn’t get the job done” Dwight Howard expresses his EMBARASSING final season with the Los Angeles Lakers

Dwight Howard, the 6’10 former Lakers center recently opened up about his team’s struggles last season. It would be an understatement to call the Lakers’ 2021-22 season a disaster. Everyone including the fans, the analysts, the players, and the management themselves know how poor of a season the lakers had. In the interview, Howard didn’t hold back from accepting the truth.

During a recent appearance as a guest on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, the high-flying dunker spoke about his time with the Lakers last season. The eight-time All-Star was frank in evaluating LA’s performance during the previous season. He said, “Every team was gunning for us and they gave us their best shot every night,” Howard said. “We didn’t get the job done. And it sucked. It left a bad taste in my mouth all summer. I probably spit 10 million times just thinking about how bad we lost and how much time was put into that season… I really felt like it was embarrassing.”

Dwight Howard continued by saying, “We still had who we had and we still should have been better so, I take my part in it. I could have been a lot better, whatever they needed me to be. But it did not end well last year and it really was an embarrassment. Some days I was like, ‘Man, we shouldn’t even put on this jersey like this.’”

Dwight Howard only managed to play for the lakers in 60 games and had career-low performances in all aspects of the game, the 8-time All-star averaged 16.2 minutes, 6.2 points, and 5.9 rebounds per game making it his worst season in the NBA so far. One could say that age caught up with the NBA champion however his then-Lakers teammate and former Olympic teammate LeBron James continues to create history in his 20th season with the Lakers.

After his last season with the Lakers, Dwight Howard couldn’t get teams interested in him to sign him for a multi-million deal. The Lakers didn’t renew his contract at the end of the last season either. It was Howard’s 3rd stint in LA and quite possibly the last. The previous ones were in 2012-13 and 2019-20 which saw the Lakers get crowned as the champions that year.

The Lakers haven’t done any better than their previous seasons until their game with the Denver Nuggets. They were at the bottom of the Western Conference going 0-5 in the regular season but after their latest and only victory so far they are 14th in the conference and hold a 1-5 record. The Lakers haven’t been able to address their shooting woes and this continues to hurt their prospects of making it to the playoffs this season.
