NBA Hall of Famer and Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce has been asserting that he outperformed his longtime rival and future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade since 2019. Jalen Rose promptly ended the debate on ESPN in 2019, and this year, Pierce initiated another campaign to prove his stance.

Although many have labeled Pierce as delusional for drawing comparisons with D-Wade, Wade himself only recently responded to the remarks during an appearance on the Dan Le Batard Show. Asked about the matter, Dwyane said that rent is expensive in America and he is living rent-free in Paul Pierce’s head.“Listen, rent is expensive in America, and I’m living rent free right now, So let him keep—I like living rent free,” Wade said.

Wade went on to emphasize that his accomplishments are well-documented, and he finds no need to elaborate, as fans and analysts, including Dan, already discuss them. He clarified that he has retired from basketball and isn’t making comparisons with current or former players.

“It’s documented,” Wade said. “I don’t need to say anything. Everything is documented. So, I’ll let you guys go ahead and talk about all that stuff. It sounds better coming from y’all than me.”I’m done playing the game of basketball. I’m not comparing myself to someone who’s not playing the game, or who is playing the game.” Wade added.

What did Paul Pierce say that led to Dwyane Wade’s response?

Paul Pierce has persistently asserted that he surpasses Dwyane Wade in skill and that his abilities went unnoticed due to his extended time playing alongside fewer star teammates. He reiterated this viewpoint on the “It Is What It Is” podcast recently, questioning whether he wouldn’t have won multiple championships with Shaq, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh on his team. He stated, “Put Shaq on my team. Put LeBron and Bosh with me. I’m not gonna win one? You put me, LeBron and Bosh, we not gonna win one? We not gonna win a couple?

Additionally, he elaborated on how his talents were undervalued due to his limited association with exceptional players. He contended that if he had played alongside prime Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, they would have clinched three championships. He remarked, “For a long time, my skills went unappreciated because I didn’t get to play with a lot of great players.” He added, “And then I got to play with KG and Ray [Allen] past their prime. Four years earlier, you put me, Ray, and KG together, you think we ain’t walking away with three ‘ships?”

Both Pierce and D-Wade boast remarkable careers, earning spots in the Hall of Fame. While D-Wade garnered more honors and guided his team to a championship in his third year, Pierce and Wade presented comparable career statistics. However, D-Wade secured more All-Defense, All-NBA, and All-Star selections than Pierce due to his prowess on both offensive and defensive fronts. Given Wade’s superior accolades, Pierce should discontinue asserting his superiority.
