The Miami Big 3 era was arguably one of the greatest teams in NBA history. It can be argued that this is the team that spearheaded the trend of forming super teams in the NBA. The trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh was feared across the NBA. When it was announced the trio would be getting together, fans went wild. The hype around them resulted in several pre-season media tours in which wild statements were often thrown around.

One of these statements included LeBron James proclaiming the Miami Heat Big 3 would win 7 NBA titles together. This claim obviously shocked NBA fans, and they were understandably disappointed when the team broke up. In a recent interview, however, Wade reveals that he never took James’ comment seriously. According to Wade, it was just something that was said in the spur of the moment, given the atmosphere of the situation.

Many of James’ fans still try to hold him accountable for his statement. Despite Wade saying that the team never took it seriously, the Heat fans were extremely excited about the announcement. To them, it meant the team would be a championship contender for years to come. However, the Big 3 of Miami split up in 2014, when James left them to join the Cleveland Cavaliers, leaving fans heartbroken.

The journey of the Miami Heat super team featuring LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh

Rumour has it that the seeds of the Heat super team were planted during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Many say that James, Wade and Bosh formed a pact at the Olympics that they would one day unite to play in the same team. While Bosh has publicly dispelled this rumor, saying that nothing of the sort was decided in Beijing, playing together as a team did help them bond with one another. This would prove quite crucial to their move later on.

In 2012, Wade was already established in Miami. James wanted out of Cleveland and Bosh was to be traded from the Raptors. In the end, the stars decided to come together to form what was one of the first super teams in the NBA. The super team went on to win 2 consecutive NBA championships – in 2012 and 2013. Though they broke apart in 2014, the Heat super team still spark discussion to this day.

For any Heat fan, those 2010’s years have to be some of the best. It was the time when Wade, James and Bosh were at their primes. The chemistry of the team was beautiful to witness. Following the break up of the team, Miami have not won a title. They came close this year, but fell to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA finals. As the next season approaches, fans are hoping that Miami can relight their flame once more.
