Josh Allen has officially become the cover athlete for EA Sports’ Madden NFL 24. With this, Allen becomes the first player from the Buffalo Bills franchise to ever grace the cover of the popular game.
Being featured on the cover of Madden is supposed to be a remarkable achievement; however, the threat of the cover athlete becoming the next victim of the Madden curse always looms above.
The Madden Curse has happened to many stars over the years, where they tend to have a bad season after they are featured on the cover or, at times, even get injured. This is probably why fans consider their favorite player being featured as a cover athlete to be a bittersweet moment. However, in the case of Josh Allen, there are mixed responses to him being the face of this game.
Fans believe there were better options than Josh Allen for the Madden Cover
While fans and analysts recognize his accomplishments and how well he has played, Josh Allen has his fair share of critics who swear by the fact that the Buffalo Bills QB did not deserve this honor, at least not this year. Fans opine that this year, other candidates deserved to become the face of the Madden franchise.
The proof is in the pudding. Josh Allen was ranked below the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Joe Burrow in this season’s NFL rankings. The above-mentioned quarterbacks had a much better year in contrast to Allen. Fans were even rooting for the Kelce brothers to be featured on the Madden cover, as the two had made history by playing at the highest level of the game.
While Patrick Mahomes has graced the cover of Madden before, which may have been the reason EA decided to go a different route. However, several fans argued Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts deserve their flowers as well. This year, an argument can be made that Jalen Hurts was the perfect candidate to grace the Madden cover, considering he not only just took the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl but also landed a massive contract in the offseason.
Fans on Twitter were not happy over Josh Allen becoming the cover athlete. Take a look at some of their reactions on Twitter.
There is a very valid argument that can be made to have the Kelce brothers on the cover. The last time we saw a non-quarterback on the cover of Madden was in 2019, when wideout Antonio Brown was featured on it.
That is very shocking for several fans, but heading into last season, the amount of hype surrounding Josh Allen and the Bills was crazy.
Maybe next year will be the one for Joe Burrow, the bigger question at the moment is if the Madden Curse will impact Josh Allen or will he be able to remain unhinged by it.
