“Anthony Davis, Durant, Karl Anthony Towns” NBA Executive reveals Knicks to be hunting for their next ‘franchise changing’ star
New York Knicks' players
New York Knicks have been on a rollercoaster journey throughout the offseason and even today the story is the same. The franchise has seen a lot of ups and downs in the past decade and is yet to set itself free. The New York Knicks haven’t got any big and good success in the recent seasons but things now may change.
This offseason the New York Knicks brought in Jalen Brunson and got the franchise a new BIG THREE. As the guard joined RJ Barrett and Julius Randle. But the fans aren’t riding with them and have labeled them as “MID THREE” and honestly, they ain’t all wrong while saying that. As the New York Knicks were expected to land Donovan Mitchell but they got clowned and a franchise-changing deal never happened.
But the New York Knicks are fighting their way out and aren’t giving up. As an NBA Executive recently revealed that they are already hunting for a new franchise star and may land him as soon as he’s available on the market. And, the New York Knicks can really pull it off as they have the right assets to do so.
As reported by NBA Central (via Sean Deveney), an NBA executive said: “They are approaching things like there will be a star who they can get—Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Davis, Durant, Karl-Anthony Towns—a star who comes on the market soon.” The executive can be very right with the claim but looking at New York Knicks’ history, that’s exactly what the franchise is trying to do for the last ten years but has pulled out nothing and just failed.
Can the New York Knicks land a “franchise-changing” star this season?
The New York Knicks will surely be landing one franchise-changing all-star player in the coming seasons. That can be a free agent signing or maybe a blockbuster trade. But this year it totally depends upon the franchise whether they want that star or not. As if the Knicks believe that they can get the job done with the new star even after giving up some of their assets then they may jump in. But right now the team is very “mid” and not showing anything special.
As the New York Knicks are maintaining a record of 8-8 and look average. Their current franchise star, Julius Randle is already a part of many talks in the market. And, the team will have another average season if none of their stars steps up and takes over the team while trying to get the job done. They have a talented roster but they aren’t just finding their way along with each other.
They aren’t shooting well or playing good defense so they really need someone who can do it on both the ends. And, right now even though many stars from the league are unhappy with the environment they are in, they haven’t given up yet and recently, got their extension signed so they aren’t in the market. So the Knicks landing one such franchise-changing player this year isn’t really possible. But again, you never know when they land one by pulling out a blockbuster trade as the season now is young and things will soon change.
