“A warrior heart as it’s finest” – Fans in disbelief as Kevon Looney banks a buzzer-beater over three Hawks players

Kevon Looney scoring

The game between Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks was nothing short of a thriller, as the game was decided in 2 overtimes and a buzzer-beater from Kevon Looney. If that sounds wild, perhaps what is wilder is the fact that the Warriors have won 5 consecutive games without having Stephen Curry in their lineup. This is also their largest winning streak of the 2022-23 season. After Klay Thompson scored a season-high 54 for the Warriors, Kevon Looney ended the game with a buzzer-beater.

After Trae Young tied the game 141-141 with a floater, the Warriors were left with no timeouts. Draymond Green took the inbound and quickly ran along the left sideline to avoid the draining shot clock. With quick thinking, Green managed to give Thompson a screen, while passing a dribble handoff to him.  Thompson fired the 3-point shot, which hit the back of the rim and bounced off. There stood Looney, who had positioned himself on the right block being defended by Dejounte Murray.

Looney tried a one-handed outback, but he failed as the ball hit the glass and came back. Finally, Kevon rose again, this time he was between Trae Young, De’Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic, all three Hawks players. Looney quickly caught the ball and made the bank shot to win the game for the Warriors in 2nd overtime. “I rushed the first one I didn’t think I had that much time, but I saw I had more time so I took my time on the second one and I was able to make it,” Looney said.

Fans went frenzy after Kevon Looney beat the buzzer in the 2nd overtime to give Golden State a 141-143 win over the Atlanta Hawks. Reacting to the last-second play by Looney, one of the fans wrote, “A warrior heart as it’s finest.” Another fan wrote, “The big man deserves all the praise. Go Looney!” Here are some of the fans’ reactions;

In absence of Stephen Curry, the Warriors have definitely come together and are winning games without him. Not all their wins have come against the weaker teams. Of the 5 consecutive wins, they have defeated good teams like Utah Jazz, Portland Trail Blazers, and Memphis Grizzlies, which came on Christmas Day.

Leading the Warriors’ offense Klay Thompson scored 54 points in just 46 minutes. Thompson made 21 of 39 shots from the field and also shot 10 of 21 from beyond the perimeter area. He really did look like old Klay. Kevon Looney gave 34 crucial minutes in the game, he scored 14 points, grabbed 20 rebounds, and had a block as well. Draymond Green took care of most of the defensive stops, he had 13 rebounds, 11 assists, 2 steals, and 3 massive blocks in the game.
