Donovan Mitchell has been balling this season after being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is among the top scorers in the league this year averaging more than 30 points a game. Although Cavs have not been performing as well as they started the season currently among the top 4 teams in the Eastern Conference.

The young stars are rising in the league and they have formed some of the best backcourts in the league right now. As Michael Porter pointed out, Trae Young & Dejounte Murray, Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant & Desmond Bane, and Donovan Mitchell & Darius Garland are among the top backcourts in the league.

When Denver Nuggets player Michael Porter Jr. asked the “Road Trippin'” guests which of the three backcourt pairings they would choose, former Cavs forward Channing Frye gave a straightforward answer saying, “Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. All day, every day.” He further added, “No offense to Ja. No offense to Desmond Bane. And no offense to Dejounte and Trae.

Channing Frye had his own opinion on why he chose Mitchell and Garland as the two backcourt duo. Apart from the fact that he is a former Cavalier, Frye said, “I…generally like bigger guards and I like guards that can shoot the ball. I need spacing this 2022.” Speaking of Ja Morant and Desmond Bane and why he would not choose them, Frye said, “Desmond Bane is not an All-Star yet, he is having a great year show me you have done it.

Frye further reminded everybody that Mitchell has been consistent in the playoffs. He remarked, “Donivan Mitchell has been going back and forth during the playoffs and getting 50 balls with that boo-boo Utah team he was playing.” He was referring to the famous rivalry between Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets in the 2020-21 playoffs semifinals.

Donovan Mitchell and the Cavaliers have, if not firmly, established themselves as the top contenders in the Eastern Conference. Leading his team in points, Donovan Mitchell has been averaging 31.6 points per game this season one of the highest in the NBA. Under Mitchell and Garland, the Cavs are 4th in the Eastern Conference with an 8-5 record.

Since Donovan Mitchell was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the fate of the franchise seems to have gotten on the better course again after LeBron James’ departure. With the young core under J. B. Bickerstaff and Donovan Mitchell, the Cavs are making news in the league once again. Young players like Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert are performing better and taking more responsibility on both sides of the floor.

The Cavs team put together right now has a real chance to go deep into the playoffs. Kevin Love and Donovan Mitchell both have enough playoff experience to pass the virtue to the young core. Although it would be difficult to foretell their journey this season, the Cavs have definitely put a hop in the organization.

Speaking with The Athletic Mitchell saidI feel I’m one of the best players in this league, and we have two of the best players on the defensive end in this league and two guys who can be All-Defensive team, and Darius Garland is an All-Star guy. We have so many pieces, excluding just myself, that if we just take care of what we’ve got to take care of, everything else will just fall in line.”

The previous Utah team with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert was finally broken by the franchise for failing to reach beyond the second round. In the regular season, Utah was the top team in the Western Conference for the past few years but failed to sail beyond the 2nd round. Although the Cavaliers do not expect to win the championship this season, their hope in the future remains bright.
