Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant
Los Angeles Lakers player Russell Westbrook has shined since he became the sixth member of the team’s rotation. He has not delivered his best until now but has chipped in with valuable contributions. One such was a fundamental block against Brooklyn Nets Kevin Durant, Russell’s ex-teammate from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Los Angeles Lakers have continued their disastrous run this season winning only three of their thirteen matches. This time they were up against a Brooklyn Nets team who is trying to get back on the winning track after a series of drama unfolded in their franchise. The LA Lakers were playing without their best player LeBron James. But the talking point was Russell Westbrook’s defensive block from behind KD.
It was a piece of sheer power that didn’t allow Kevin to pick up 2pts. With their luck this season, no one would have thought the LA Lakers would prevail on the top against the Nets 116-103. Fans were on their feet when they saw such an electrifying block from Russell Westbrook. In contrast, some reacted on social media as soon as the reel went viral. A few from the NBA world would have guaranteed that the LA Lakers would not move past the Nets challenge, that too without LeBron James in the ranks. But a dominant performance from star player Anthony Davis who ripped through the Nets’ defense for a game-high 37 points and 18 rebounds in 34 minutes on the court led them to a consoling win. Lonnie Walker IV chipped in with 25 points in 30 minutes to help the LA Lakers pocket a win. Davis averaged only 8.6 points in the second half but had 21 against the Nets, including 15 in the third quarter.
Austin Reaves had 15 points while Russell Westbrook had 14 points and 12 assists. For the Nets, Kevin Durant led with 31 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Cam Thomas came off the bench to score 15 points and Edmond Sumner added 13. Kyrie Irving missed his sixth straight game, even though he was suspended for only five, as he refused to say he had no antisemitic beliefs. The Los Angeles Lakers play the Detroit Pistons next while the Brooklyn Nets clash against the Sacramento Kings.
