The City of Denver hosted their first-ever NBA Championship parade inside the city through downtown Denver after the Nuggets capped off an impressive postseason run.
Led by the two-time MVP, Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets beat all of their opposition to hoist the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy capping off a historic run where the team never lost more than two games in every series that they played in and according to the coach Mike Malone there is much more to come from the Nuggets.
All through in the midst of the parade celebrations, a fully drunk Mike Malone delivers a warning for the rest of the league: “We’re not done yet. We some greedy bastards, baby. We getting another one. And I’m out!.” The Denver Head coach might be fully intoxicated and under the influence of alcohol, but he was 100% serious with his statement as the Nuggets are betting favourites to win it all again next season.
With the season officially over with the Nugget’s parade, Nikola Jokic is looking forward to heading home to Serbia to pursue his other passion, Horse-racing and the front office will look to gear up for the offseason as they look to weather an upgraded Western Conference as several teams are looking to make moves.
This is also the second straight June the city has held a parade. The Colorado Avalanche were also the main guest last year after hoisting the Stanley Cup.
Denver Nuggets roster OUTLOOK for the 2023-24 season
After The Nuggets capped off a beautiful playoff run that saw role-players and veterans stepping up in crucial moments of the Playoffs, the question that the front office has to answer is, Will they be able to retain their Championship roster? Let us look at what could be in store for the Champions.
With the new CBA in full function this summer, the Nuggets will have to make decisions regarding their already expensive roster with Jokic, Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. all earning more than $30 million each per season and with Jamal Murray nearing an extension who will be eligible for a max if he qualifies for All-NBA next season. The team will have to tread lightly as the new CBA is designed to be harsher on teams paying the luxury tax.
The team can pretty much run it back, but they would have to depart with Bruce Brown as the team can only offer him around $8 million and he is better off testing the open market. The team is also likely to lose several key veteran players like DeAndre Jordan, Ish Smith and Jeff Green as the trio would be looking forward to retirement after they finally won a Championship.
The Nuggets are currently over the league salary cap and the team is only allowed to sign outside players using any available exceptions or at league minimum salaries.
