“He answered the bell” – Paul George STRONGLY backs up Russell Westbrook’s re-sign with Clippers
Following a first round exit, Paul George would want Russell Westbrook back for the next season, as he supports his comeback
Paul George and Russell Westbrook
The Los Angeles Clippers went through yet another unsuccessful season. Since the arrival of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers haven’t made it past the Conference Finals. In the previous season, the Clipper team lost to the Phoenix Suns in the first round. Though this year they added Russell Westbrook, the former MVP who would stay in his hometown after moving on from the Los Angeles Lakers.
After a rough time with the Lakers, Russell Westbrook had another chance to prove himself, this time with the Clippers. Russ put up a great performance in the postseason, establishing himself as still one of the best guards in the league. Westbrook averaged 23 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in the postseason, with those numbers being higher than his season averages.
Following the first-round exit, fans were questioning Russ’ decision to stay in L.A. Even though he had a great season, being 34 years old, Westbrook remains without a ring. Playing alongside Paul Geroge and Leonard, his future with this team seems to be great, should the stars be healthy. After a number of rumors spread about Russ leaving the Clippers, his teammates certainly didn’t want him to. Paul Goerge believes Russ has been the missing piece to the Clipper nation.
PG13 addressed the pros of the 2022-23 season, as he said, “The most positive about the season is like we found our point guard, ended up being the best player for us once Kawhi went down in that series.”. Russ had a huge impact playing against the team with the most skilled players. Westbrook faced his former teammate, Kevin Durant, Suns’ star Devin Booker, and the veteran Chris Paul, all by himself. Certainly, with Kawhi and PG being healthy, the team can contend for a title. “He answered the bell. You know what I mean? Like, back against the ropes, everybody questioning, everybody questioned him as a player. Does he still got it? He’s not what he used to be. He surprised everybody and he earned that respect back,” added George.
Russell Westbrook might win his first championship with the Clippers
Out of the big three, Kawhi Leonard is the only player with championship basketball experience. Westbrook made his first Finals appearance in 2012 when the Thunder had Durant and James Harden on the roster as well.
Leonard had last played in the Finals in 2019 versus the Warriors. There is definitely the championship drive in the team, though what they lack is consistency.
The team has not yet had their big three play their best on the floor together. As Russ’ decision is not confirmed yet, staying with the Clipper team may be his best option, though it will heavily depend on the players’ health and availability for the next season.
