Stephen Curry and Jeff Van Gundy

Stephen Curry has radically altered basketball throughout the course of his 14-year NBA career. He not only changed the way the game was played, but he also did it while regularly succeeding. He is a four-time NBA champion, a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a two-time scoring champion, and an eight-time All-Star. His shooting accolades are a completely separate topic.

The Golden State Warriors haven’t quite lived up to expectations as the defending champions this season. They have a history of being quite erratic, and once again, injuries have bothered them. ESPN’s Jeff Van Gundy spoke of Curry and the Warriors and the MVP competition on the Lowe Podcast: He said, “You can make the case to me, year in & year out… you could make a strong case he’s been the most valuable player in the league over the past decade.”

Van Gundy does acknowledge how important Stephen Curry is to the Warriors and the league. Even when things seemed hopeless for the Warriors, he has consistently been a bright spot. Without Steph, the Warriors wouldn’t have won these four championships in the past eight years. They depend on him. Steve Kerr, the Warriors’ head coach too spoke highly of Steph during the post-game press conference against the Wizards.

He said, “He’s the modern MJ. I used to see this playing with the Bulls. Half the crowd’s got red 23 jerseys on and now half the crowd’s got blue and yellow 30 jerseys. Steph transcends the game. He elicits an emotion from people, I think because he’s so awe-inspiring with his play that, no matter where we go, there are people cheering for him and can’t wait to see him perform because we’ve never seen anything like him.”

Curry recently had a conversation with Warriors president Bob Myers about a variety of subjects. The team’s decision to sign Durant over the summer was one of the topics brought up. Myers touched on what Curry said to KD to assure that he wanted to join forces while delving into the events leading up to the deal.

Myers said, “The line I remember was whether you’re MVP or I’m MVP if it’s yours I’ll be sitting there in the front row to like for congratulating you and I was kind I had this moment like wow that could actually happen like.” The Warriors superstar believed he and Durant can co-exist especially at a time when all sorts of comparisons between the 2 stars were being made

Steph Curry has only been interested in winning throughout his entire career. His selflessness allowed him to serve as the cornerstone of an NBA dynasty. Although their time together was brief, Curry stood by what he told KD prior to the latter’s arrival in Golden State. Curry was present to congratulate Durant for his outstanding performance when he won the MVP awards for the Finals in 2017 and 2018.
