Jeff Van Gundy recently said that Stephen Curry has a strong argument for last decade's MVP in the league. Head coach Steve Kerr also said that Curry is the modern Michael Jordan.

Jeff van Gundy recently said that Stephen Curry should the last decade’s MVP over anybody. This might come as a shock to many who think that LeBron James has been the unquestionable King of the NBA for one and a half decades. He has left his mark on every stat sheet that an NBA player ever could. Perhaps, his greatest achievement was making Cleveland the city of champions in 2016. He has won NBA championships, 4 NBA Finals MVPs, and 4 league MVPs, and now he is going to become the baller with the most points in NBA history. Perhaps, folks still think Ohio born has still something to prove.

Earlier this week, the former coach and the NBA commentator made his remark on the Zach Lowe podcast. The former NBA coach didn’t say that Steph was the clear MVP over James. However, he said that the reigning Finals MVP has a strong case for it. “You could make a strong case he’s been the most valuable player in the league over the past decade,” Van Gundy said. Perhaps it is always unfair to put stars one behind the other which undermines their greatness. However, as basketball fans, it is almost impossible to control the urge.

Perhaps Gundy also has a point. The Warriors star has won four NBA championships since 2013, while James has only won three since then. Curry‘s resume appears to be similar to James’ in terms of championships. However, it would be unfair to LeBron to disregard his 4 Finals MVPs as compared to Steph’s one. The 3-point champion has also won a unanimous MVP in the league, but that doesn’t give a reason to The Los Angeles Lakers‘ star four. Both superstars have been similar in their popularity on and off the court.

If there is one thing that Steph has almost identical on his resume to Jordan, it would be his impact on the game. Both MJ and the 4 x NBA champion have been able to transform the game with their skills and style of play. In a recent conversation with the media Warriors’ coach, Steve Kerr said that Curry was the modern Michael Jordan. “He’s the modern MJ,” the Warriors coach said, comparing Curry to Michael Jordan. “I used to see this playing with the Bulls. Half the crowd’s got red 23 jerseys on and now half the crowd’s got blue and yellow 30 jerseys,” added Kerr.

Kerr has previously played with Michael, during his Bulls stint, and won five rings in his career. Perhaps, he knows the generational impact Jordan had on fans and the game altogether. Speaking on Curry’s transcendental impact, the 4 x NBA champion coach said, “Steph transcends the game. He elicits emotion from people, I think because he’s so awe-inspiring with his play that, no matter where we go, there are people cheering for him and can’t wait to see him perform because we’ve never seen anything like him.”
