James Harden’s exceptional 21-assist night equals 54-year-old 76ers record

James Harden equaled a 54-year-old Philadelphia 76ers record in a win over the LA Clippers. Harden, is known for putting up huge boxscore-stuffing stats but he really broke the game this time, doing something that only the late great Wilt Chamberlain has done before.

James Harden tallied 20 points, 11 rebounds, and an eye-popping 21 assists vs the Clippers. A 20-assist triple-double is a feat that Wilt achieved for Philadelphia back in 1968. The Sixers needed all of the contributions as they narrowly won the close game 119-115 over the Clippers.

It is James Harden’s first triple-double of the season which is a little bit out of character for the Beard who is usually a triple-double machine. Harden is one of the best scorers to ever play, is an elite rebounder for a guard which helps his grab-n-go style of play, and his scoring ability allows him to open up defenses and use his playmaking to get teammates open. This is why his only having one triple-double is a surprise.

Of course, it goes without saying that anytime you do something that only Wilt has done before, it’s cause for positive appraisal however, this is also a personal milestone for the guard. The 21 assists is a career-high number for Harden who previously had recorded 17 assists on 10 separate occasions.

James Harden’s record-breaking game, along with Embiid’s 44-point night sunk the Clippers. The Philadelphia 76ers notched their 7th straight win and now sit in 5th place in the east at 19-12. Although during this run, they have played only 2 teams with a record above .500, it is impressive nonetheless.

Over the last 7 games, the Sixers have a net rating of +12.5, second only to the Memphis Grizzlies. Philly is looking like a menacing eastern conference team again, adding to what is already a stacked conference where at least one team from Boston, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Brooklyn and Philly will be eliminated in the first round.

Philadelphia now heads back on the road after a perfect 7-0 homestand, in the hopes to continue the impressive run of wins. The upcoming 4 game road trip will start on Christmas Vs. the Knicks in the Garden, before heading to Washington, New Orleans, and concluding in OKC on new year’s eve.
