The Oklahoma City Thunder sent shockwaves in the NBA after they gave the Jaylen Brown led Boston Celtics one of their most embarrassing defeats lately and got them a losing streak of 2 games. The Oklahoma-based team has had a dismal season and may not have much to look forward to as they stand 13th in the Western Conference but after their latest victory, their spirits have definitely been lifted.
Celtics star Jaylen Brown pointed out what led to his side’s loss against the Thunder. Speaking at the post-game press conference, Brown said, “We got our ass kicked, that’s what happened. We probably had it coming to us… we pick and choose when we want to play… they embarrassed us,”
Josh Giddey, a sophomore guard, served as the Thunder’s leader in scoring. Giddey finished with a season-high 25 points on 66.7% shooting, five rebounds, and five assists. In addition, Lu Dort scored 23 points, and Isaiah Joe, Tre Mann, and Jalen Williams each scored 21 points.
The Celtics‘ defeat is tied for the second-highest total in franchise history, trailing only the 160 points they gave up to the Pistons in 1979. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the NBA’s No. 4 top scorer this season, absent due to illness, the Celtics entered the game anticipating an easy victory. Instead, less than four minutes into the second half, Oklahoma City embarked on a 10-0 run to go up 90-63, and the Celtics never recovered.

Brown led the Celtics with 29 points on 61.1% shooting. Superstar forward Jayson Tatum chipped up with 27 points and six rebounds on 52.9% shooting at the same time. However, it is clear from the final score of the game that the Celtics’ biggest problem was not scoring. Their lack of consistency and focus is what led to their downfall.
The victory raised OKC’s record to 16-21, good for 12th place in the Western Conference. However, after their recent loss to the Orlando Magic, they dropped one spot to the 13th position now. Even after losing their previous two games, Boston still has the best record in the NBA with a 26-12 record. The Celtics will need to restore more consistency, as Brown pointed out, in order to keep their place at the top of the NBA.
The 22-16 Dallas Mavericks will be Boston’s next opponent and chance to win on the road on Thursday. The Celtics will undoubtedly need to play better if they want to win because Dallas is currently riding a seven-game winning streak.
