The National Basketball League (NBL) is the Australian counterpart of the NBA. Likewise, franchises in the league get into the competitive sport and look to win. The South East Melbourne Phoenix is one of them. The Phoenix entered the NBL in 2019 and started competing in the 2019-20 season. However, they haven’t managed to win a championship yet.

Unsurprisingly, the Phoenix are looking to strengthen their roster to up their chances of winning a title. According to reports, South East Melbourne is now looking to recruit NBA point guard John Wall. Moreover, they hope the veteran guard will agree to play for the franchise in the NBL 2024 season. Wall purchased an ownership stake in the South East Melbourne Phoenix earlier this year.

John Wall has been quite a good layer for the teams he’s played for in his 11 years so far. He’s played for the Washington Wizards, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Houston Rockets. Moreover, he has averaged 18.7 points, 8.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 647 regular-season games. Wall has also played in over 5 All-Star games. He most recently played for the Clippers. However, he was ruled out due to an abdominal injury in January 2023 and couldn’t play for the rest of the season.

John Wall has had a rather injury-ridden career so far. As harsh as it may be, many fans have grown to dislike Wall for his injury-prone nature. Therefore, after reports of the South East Melbourne Phoenix’s pursuit of Wall surfaced, many mocked the guard. Some even called him a ‘bank robber,’ referring to him managing to find contracts despite sitting out so much. Here are a few reactions:

Although the reports are flooding in, there is no official announcement or press release yet. Wall has been a pretty respected player in the NBA despite his issues with injuries. While some fans are sad to see the guard move to the NBL, some believe that this is a positive change for Wall. However, whether or not he actually ends up playing for the South East Melbourne Phoenix remains to be seen.
